New to accesible games

Category: Accessible Games

Hey, I have been a gamer for a long time. However semi new to accessible computer games. I usually would just strain what remaining eye sight I have to play regular computer games, but now am starting to get interested in accesible computer games. I play Alter Aeon quite a bit, and know of Jim Kitchens games but was wondering what else is out there for a guy on a low budget. Does anyone know of any other muds like Alter Aeon that work with Jaws, or any free accesible computer games? I would apreciate any tips you might be able to give me, thanks alot.

One of the best sites I've seen for accessible games is Ean Humphrey's blind gamers site at
http://www.omninet.net.au/~irhumph/blindgamers.htm
The games he currently has available are:
BG Cribbage 1.1, BG Free Cell Solitaire 1.1, BG Klondike Solitaire 1.0,
BGScorpion Solitaire 1.0, BG Penguin Solitaire 1.0, BG Hearts 1.0
BG LAP, BG 15 Puzzle, BG Sudoku,
BG Boggle, and BG Yahtzee

The only drawback to getting his games is that you have to email him with a request and it may take a few days for him to get back to you.

Thanks.
Bob

Hi Business Opportunity,

If you're interested in accessible games that are inexpensive, check out www.7128.com.

My name is John Bannick.
I'm new to the Zone, and forums and boards in general.
I build games for 7-128 Software in Salem, Massachusetts.
Some of them work with JAWS and also self-voice.

Let me know what you think.

Muds are inherently accessible, due to their being text based. A popular mud client for users of JAWS and Windoweyes is Monkeyterm. I use two sound packs for this client (one for Alter Aeon and one for Miriani). An ordinary telnet client will work with muds, as well. There are a few browser-based mud-like games, such as The Kingdom of Loathing, Legend of the Green Dragon, and Heroes of Ardania. These are played in your web browser, with no added configuration needed. If you wish to play games that are not online, the Ian Humfrees games are a good choice; I play the Cribbage. If it's racing games you want, have a look at Top Speed II and Rail Racer (I don't have the link handy). I know that Top Speed II has an on-line, multi-player option, as well as allowing you to race against the computer and run time trials.

Well, if you have enough sight you could try runescape at runescape.com. But, if you want a mud, try avalon at avalonmud.com

Is there an accessible computer chess game, that I can download? I don't really want to play the online chess, though, just one like where I can download onto my computer.

There is one on the freedom scientific site somewhere in the downloads section. Sorry, I don't have the URL available.

The game has online capabilities which I don't believe work, but it is also a computer/human chess game.

hmmmm I might check them out. and, if anyone here plays runescape check out world of warcraft! You have to buy the game, and pay 15 bucks a month, but it's worth it!

Um wow, if I'm right, how can any of us that really can't see play WOW?

Heros of Ardania is fun even though I keep dying.

I'm honestly more into muds and such as aposed to the web games themselves.

How can we play Wow? We can't. Sucks for us totals...

just as a sidenote about muds, there's a really, really, really, and I mean really, oh and did I say really? Awesome game out there called godwars2. It's a little complicated to get started, but basically, there are no restrictions on the actual gameplay, and you can do whatever you want while playing. If you want to learn more, there is a mud client called monkey term, a soundpack for godwars, and the xml file along with the jaws API for monkey term at http:O//www.randylaptop.com/mudding.

Thanks, I shall look at the Godwars sound pack. I tried googling for it; nothing surfaced. Godwars does look intimidating, but I'll give it a chance. Should I start with one of those "concept" characters?

Post 22 by Coldshadow (supreme commander of the shadow fleet) on Wednesday, 07-Nov-2007 12:19:35

Godwars is good, I just got bored of it
reason being its more based on fighting then anything, and that just doesn't appeal for long.
but I still liked it for a time.
